SIT – Sordina IORT Technologies S.p.A. has signed a strategic agreement with ATOMKI – Institute for Nuclear Research, one of Europe’s leading centres for nuclear physics and radiation studies.
The agreement concerns the delivery of an costumized ElectronFlash system, an accelerator developed and manufactured by SIT. This acquisition represents the beginning of a structured scientific collaboration between the two organizations.
In January, the system successfully underwent technical acceptance testing at SIT’s manufacturing facility in Aprilia, in the presence of ATOMKI researchers and technicians, representing a key milestone in the project implementation process.
ElectronFlash: a Custom Configuration for ATOMKI
The ElectronFlash system designed for ATOMKI was developed in a customized configuration, allowing irradiation with both electron and photon beams, enabling fast mode switching via the Control Unit with minimal human–machine interaction. This solution was defined in strong cooperation between SIT technical team and the researchers of the Hungarian institute with the goal of addressing specific experimental needs.
The system customization represents a distinctive element of the project and highlights SIT’s ability to adapt its technology to advanced research contexts, ensuring dosimetric control, beam stability and reproducibility of operational parameters in compliance with high scientific standards.
Towards Installation: a Shared Path
The joint verification phase carried out at SIT – Sordina IORT Technologies S.p.A.’s facility in Aprilia represented a key step in the collaboration with ATOMKI – Institute for Nuclear Research.
The direct involvement of ATOMKI’s scientific team during the operational tests allowed for on-site validation of the custom configuration and confirmed full compliance with the agreed technical requirements.
The positive outcome of the tests paved the way for the system installation, scheduled for March, marking the start of operational research activities and a new phase of the partnership.
